2021.11.28 04:55 Sumdude805 I helped out in a car accident today

This just happened today about 830 / 9pm its 12am now I can't stop thinking about this.
Me and my friend were walking back home after we ate burritos at a food truck In a grocery store parking lot. As we waited for our turn to cross the street the street light was turning yellow there was a Honda suv slowly about to turn down the street when a Mercedes-Benz tried to make light but ended crashing it was really loud crash. The front end of the Mercedes was smashed in and spun around but the air bags didn't go off at all, the Hondas front end and side was damaged and the wheel got bent in, his air bags went off. There was glass, fluids, plastic parts all over the road. My friend called 911 to report the accident, I yelled out if everyone is OK the guy in the suv is pissed off and cussing (I would be too if I was In a accident) the lady in the Mercedes says her leg might be broken so ran over in the middle of traffic and she said her legs hurt bad she can't stand up so i pulled her out of the car and I kept apologizing as I carried her over to the grass because with every step I took I could here the bones in her leg make cracking noises. I was able to lay her down and i took my sweater off to clean the blood off her face and make a pillow for her head I held her legs in place till the emergency team came in about 5 / 10 minutes and took over the situation.
We got thanked by both of the people involved (they both were driving alone in each car) police officers, firefighters and paramedics. We had to give a statement before leaving. I hope everyone involved makes a healthy recovery and wish them well. Kinda felt like a movie scene tbh, but I'm just glad I was able to help out.
Everyone stay safe out there.

I have INT Fu and Teq Ssj4 Broly on a DBH team and when they are full on ki and about to launch a super attack, their attack stat sits around 80 - 100k. While other units' attack stats go up to 150 - 200k. Is there a reason behind this?

2021.11.28 04:55 Cptnwalrus Charlie Kaufman is the only filmmaker to come close to capturing Surrealism in a movie format.

I've been thinking about surrealism a lot lately, and how much that term has lost its meaning. Nowadays, anything even slightly weird is instantaneously given the term surreal. And while surrealism is fairly open ended, there is a certain ethos to the movement that is hardly ever seen these days, even in self-described surrealist film and tv.
First of all, straight up dream sequences and drug drips don't count. Yeah sure they can be fun, and they're technically surreal, but just because you movie has a bunch of weird dream sequences doesn't quite make it surrealist in my mind because it's entirely drawing a clear line between what is real and grounded in the universe of the movie vs. what is in the dream sequence. It's saying hey this is how things normally are - usually very similar to real life as we know it - but this character just took a tab of acid or is having a crazy dream, and as soon as those sequences are over so is the surrealism. They're self-contained and completely ornamental, usually adding nothing more than a gimmick or a (in my opinion) pretty heavy-handed way of conveying some subtext of the storyline or a character. Look to the dream sequences in The Sopranos. Not only do they feel pretty out of place but they also only serve to communicate some pretty simple things in overblown ways where it's clear the filmmaker just wanted to have fun making a weird sequence vs. actually crafting something that's fully surreal as a whole.
Surrealism is about completely surrendering yourself to the subconscious and dreamlike state, meaning that to be truly surrealist your artwork must be immersive and not constantly winking at the camera or making clear distinctions between what is real and what isn't. The whole point is the clash between something that's absurd or strange with real and grounded elements. When you dream, the weirdness comes from all the familiar people and places your brain is showing you contrasting with the odd things happening and things being said.
I just watched City of Lost Children recently, which is touted as a surrealist film, and while the setting is strange it ends up just feeling much more like a slightly off kilter sci fi/fantasy. The thing about surrealist cinema is that the surreal elements shouldn't just be there for aesthetic purposes. It's not just the character designs, setting, and core premise that needs to feel dreamlike, it's things like the story structure, the dialogue, the way it's edited and shot. Almost every part of the process should be dipped in surrealism. Overall this film actually has a pretty conventional plot - a rag-tag group of characters going to save a loved one from a tyrannical overlord. It also does something with the dream sequences that is incredibly obnoxious where there is this pulsating wide angle lens distortion effect put over everything. Now, while I understand that this could be seen as an effect meant to represent the feeling of a stressful or disorienting dream, it ends up just working against itself and making things feel even less immersive. This effect is seen in a lot of "surreal" sequences in film, and it's kind of maddening. Have you ever had a dream where things looked that way? I know I definitely haven't. See, the problem is we all have had dreams, and we all intuitively know the underlying language of dreams, but filmmakers keep ignoring this in order to do weirder things just to be weird. Sure it can be fun its own right but as far as creating a true sense of surrealism it doesn't work.
Here's where Charlie Kaufman comes in. I know this might sound like a lukewarm, cliched take because I'm sure we all love Kaufman but I have been watching a lot of surrealist movies recently, both old and new, and nobody ever seems to come close to nailing the tone of dreams or surrealism that he does. And that's effectively all this stuff comes down to - tone. You can have the weirdest settings and characters and make your characters do nonsensical things all you want but if the tone isn't surreal it will fall flat. Films like Synedoche, New York and I'm Thinking of Ending Things truly pull you into dream logic. Even when incredibly normal and dull things are happening, it feels surreal because of the ways the characters interact, the way the plot progresses, the contrast between things, subtle things in the background. The majority of the things that happen just in the car ride between the two main characters in I'm Thinking of Ending Things trump the majority of other surrealist media. So much is done with just a simple set up, and it all has clear intention. It's never blown out of proportion and turned into some funhouse (maybe arguably at the end but that ends up having enough reason behind it.to justify it in my mind) it just captures the uncomfortable feeling of something being off in the most subtle yet effective ways, and actually treats the idea of the subconscious mind with respect whether that be in what's actually happening or the underlying subtext, which is what the movement was basically all about.
I'm not just writing this to blow.more smoke up the guy's ass, my point is I wish there was more. I'm really sick of that word surrealism meaning less and less and just becoming a boring stand in for "weird". We need more filmmakers who truly understand the surrealist vibe in that more subtle and more immersive way. There have been some shows that kind of toe the line. Atlanta, Kidding, etc. but again these shows fall short in not having the balls to commit to having an actually surrealist world and instead running back to real life every time something weird happens by explaining things to us or having the characters react to weird things in normal, logical ways. The most surreal thing you can do is have something weird that no one reacts to.
Despite this rant I'm not necessarily an expert on surrealism, so maybe I'm wrong. Do you agree? Are there any lesser known movies/shows that you think accomplish this feeling better?

2021.11.28 04:55 lesbianwriterlover69 Human change. Which is probably both a popular and not so popular topic.

I think the most human thing, the most common thing, and yet the least used...is Human Change.
It does not have to be a HUGE change, like how we usually write it, but we could plant SEEDS of change.
Lets say for Example a Warlord of an alien race attacks a planet, on his way he is attacked by his enemy and is separated from his GRAND ARMY.
He finds himself awake in a simple home on a bed. He gets up and sees a old couple preparing porridge made for his species in the cooking pot. They see him awake and immediately urge him to sit down, saying that he has not rested long enough.
He is apprehensive, trusting a different race is...not the normal. But we are humans, we try to make friends with anything we encounter.
He slowly learns to trust the old couple. They teach him simple things.
He learns during his time with the humans, who already are working on contacting his forces, how life is so...fleeting. What change will you leave the galaxy, WHO will remember you, HOW will they remember you. What lessons can you learn during your life.
He then learns little things, The old man teaches him how to play a human guitar and piano. The old lady teaches him how to tend to plants and gardens.
And then he returns to his army. He then sees everything Differently.
Instead of Soldiers, treated like pawns, he sees people. Instead of villages who stand against him, he sees People trying to protect their way of life. Instead of Enemies, he sees Oppressed people.
And then he realizes, He has changed.
And then the beautiful thing arrives. We can now write, his journey, of Change.

2021.11.28 04:55 crys1348 Star Expiration Question

Hi all! This is probably a stupid question, but here goes. I have stars expiring on December 1st. Does that mean I can still redeem them on December 1st? Or will they expire at midnight on November 30th? I know it seems silly, but the 1st is the only logical day I have time to go to Starbucks next week, but I don't want to lose 200 stars either. I'm trying to make a game plan! Lol Thanks for your help!

Has anyone listened to the Rosamund Pike version of EotW yet? I was thinking of giving it a listen even though I’ve read and listened to the KrameReading version before, who as much as I respect their narration, I could probably enjoy listening to Ms. Pike recite the phone book.
